Scoreline : United 6 Chesterfield LFC 0

United`s Reserves have had a few tense games this saeson but in the pleasant spring sunshine today were able to savour a professional performance this time with a comfortable win over Chesterfield.

United in fact had 4 former Chesterfield players in their starting line-up. Starting the day in 4th place United knew a win was essential to remain in the `chasing pack` of 3 behind leaders Handsworth.

The first half was goaless and both teams seemed to cancel each other out . United had a few chances but lacked the finish to break the deadlock.

The second half was better for United as they slowly wore the visitors down. The break through arrived 58 minutes when the influential midfielder Nicola Masling fired a shot through a crowded box , the Keeper parried the shot only for Amber Wilson to be on hand to tap in for 1-0.

It seemed just a matter of time before the second would arrive as Wilson hit the post and the tricky Paris Wagstaff had two chances herself , mis-hitting one shot and heading wide on another occasion.

Then a fine cross-field passing move put in Cara Hopkinson , who raced yards to collect the pass and slot the ball home after 69 minutes play.

Two more goals in two minutes then put the game beyond any doubt Amber Wilson grabbed her second goal on 75 minutes. Then Beth Garner tapped in from close range at a corner to make it 4-0.

The brave Chesterfield spirit was not enough to stop United enjoying a rousing finale as pressure was kept on right to the end. Paris Wagstaff showed her quick feet skills to get into the box before an excellent lob over the Keeper into the far corner for 5-0.

Finally Captain Abbi Creed , who had nearly found the top corner just earlier drilled a corner kick in that was deflected into the net by an unlucky defender. Creed ,the former Chesterfield player not celebrating out of respect.

So 6-0 and a very satisfactory performance to extend United`s 2013 unbeaten run to 4 now ahead of the trip to Dearne and District next week. United remain in fourth , a point behind Wednesday who held Handsworth 1-1 and two points behind Dearne who beat Shaw Lane.Kelly Pearson was withdrawn early on as a precaution with a tight hamstring with the Dearne game in mind. Pearson , the teams record appearance holder has now extended that record passed 60 games.

The week previously United and Wednesday shared a 6 goal thriller . Goals from Creed , from the penalty spot , Robinson and Craddock. The team that day was SANTORO : PARSONS , HOYLAND , WARD , KEANE : HOPKINSON , CREED , WEST , ROBINSON : PEARSON , CRADDOCK.
