This 2nd round cup game was played in good spirits and started off with much pressure being put on the Belles defence from a lively United front line. The Belles started to get a foothold in this game after 10 minutes and Grace in the United goal had to be pretty alert in a diving save at the feet of an on- rushing forward. Several more attacks from Doncaster were thwarted by an interception from Becca and another smart save from Grace. Some clever play between Ellie Tilly and Rachel, saw a shot from Sam saved, and in another move Aveanne on the left wing passed to Rachel who also saw her shot collected by the goalkeeper. After 17 minutes Unitedís resistance was broken, from a lovely cross from the Belles left wing the forward headed the ball up in to the air and volleyed in as the ball dropped. Within a few minutes a poor clearance saw the ball land at a forwards feet and her chipped effort eluded Grace to make it 2:0 to the home side. However Unitedís spirit remained and good work from Selina, saw Rachel get another shot off but was comfortably saved by the keeper.A clearance from Cari to Tilly set United on the attack again, with a shot going wide.
Doncasterís attacks were repelled by a workman-like United defence with first Laura then Paige getting blocked tackles in to prevent further scoring efforts.
Half time 2:0
As the second half commenced the United attack started again to pass the ball well with Rachel, Sam and Tilly combining well, with Tilly having a shot well saved again, however a speculative ball over the top of Unitedís defence saw a volley into Graceís goal to make it 3:0.
After another series of good midfield play, Selina played a good ball to Sam, her one two with Rachel put Sam in the clear, and she coolly slotted the ball home from the edge of the area to reduce the arrears.3:1.
Another tackle from Rachel, who was all over the pitch, and a clearance from Becca, kept the Belles attack at bay, but as the game reached itís conclusion a dribble from the left-winger for the Belles put any revival by United on hold as she scored a fine goal to wrap up this cup tie with a 4:1 win to the home side.
Final Score 4:1
