On a bright but chilly morning, Shaw Lane started this game with more urgency, with Aveanne in the United goal (who was deputising for the injured Grace) called into action to prevent the home side from gaining an early advantage. Olivia fed a sweeping ball into the path of Rachel, but her shot was collected easily by the goalkeeper. United started to play their passing game, which resulted in a number of attempts from Sam and Rachel again.
A series of throw inís from Laura on the right touchline turned defence into attack, with United gaining 50 yards, the result of which, had Sam making the goalie make a diving save at the expense of a corner. The corner despatched by Rachel saw a Paige header cleared of the line.
Shaw Laneís attack however always looked dangerous, and their pace made several opportunities all of which went wide. Bronte playing wide on the left, controlled the ball well and passed to Rachel, her shot was again saved. Sam again had 2 more attempts from passes by Bronte and Rachel, both blocked by the goalkeeper. As half time approached a final attack from Shaw Lane saw the move build up on the left and a speculative shot went over Aveanneís head and into the roof of the net to give the home side a 1:0 lead at the interval.
The second half continued in much of the same vein as the first, the teams were quite evenly matched, and the game was played competitively but fairly, Laura played a ball to Sam, who put Olivia in the clear but her shot was saved. Selina as tough tackling as usual, played in Sam whose cross towards Katie wasnít collected by the goalie and as the defender hesitated Katie nipped in to make the score 1:1. Sustained pressure from United now, made it look as though there would only be one winner , and a shot over the crossbar from Rachel seemed to confirm this. Shaw Lane were not going to be denied though and their forwards had several opportunities to grab the winning goal.
United were caught however with a long ball played out of the home teamís defence, this was again latched onto by a nippy forward and her shot went under Unitedís diving goalkeeper to give Shaw Lane a 2:1 victory
