Another hard match for the Sheffield United Community Ladies Under 15's this weekend against Rotherham under difficult circumstances.
For the first ten minutes of the match the Sheffield United U15 team were more than a match for the Rotherham side, everyone put in a good shift even after the opposition scored a goal early on after the ball fell to a Rotherham player on the edge of the box, they were able to take a touch and shoot into the middle of the goal.
Fifteen minutes into the game after struggling for a while Kayleigh was forced off with an injury, Sadie came on to replace here in midfield.
Rotherham scored another goal soon after the first sending the ball out of Hannah's reach into the bottom corner making the score 2-0. After this SUCL some good opportunities to score, both Sam and Natalie went on some good runs down the centre and the left hand side of the pitch but were tackled before they could get a shot away.
As SUCL seemed to be getting back into the game Immi played the ball to Ellie who was able to play a great aerial pass towards Sam on the left hand side of the pitch, as Sam jumped up to head the ball, she landed of the shoulder of the challenging defender injuring her lower back, leaving her unable to participate in the rest of the game.
After an half an hour delay in play, the remainder of the first half was played, with SUCL down to ten players
In the second half SUCL had to dig deep in order to try and get back into the game.
The goalkeeper for the full match, Hannah, made some great saves during the second half, saving one that came from a powerful free kick that bounced awkwardly in front of her but she judged the flight of the ball and bounce on the uneven turf very well.
The back four of Katie, Beth, Lucy and Immi linked up well together passing the ball around amongst themselves and spreading the play to the midfield players, the two full backs Katie and Immi went on some good runs down the wings to try and create opportunities for the team to score.
After the third and fourth goal went in the team was mixed up a little bit, Sadie and Immi swapped positions and Katie went on to play in the Central defensive midfield position, changing the formation from a 4-4-2 to a 3-5-2. After these changes were made SUCL saw more of the ball in the midfield third of the pitch, Sadie was able to play the ball into Immi and Sarina who were able to hold the ball up well and pass it off to Maggy, who went on an amazing run taking on five players several times over ,taking the ball from the half way line to the edge of the box but was unable to
convert the chance.
